In 2012, JGC received a contract from Japan CCS for construction of a demonstration test project regarding CO2 separation, capture, and storage led by the Ministry Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). It was completed and turned over in 2016.

METI chose Tomakomai City in Hokkaido as the demonstration test location, and called for a company that could conduct Japan's first CCS total system "Carbon Dioxide Technology Demonstration Project" entailing separating and capturing the CO2 from raw material gas containing CO2, and conducting integrated compression transportation, injection, underground storage, and monitoring. METI selected Japan CCS.

The scope of JGC's work was "design, equipment procurement, and construction work as well as conducting the test run" concerning above-ground facilities, which are the core facilities of this demonstration test, transporting CO2 from the raw material gas containing CO2 to the injection well that conducts separation, capture, and compression.

JGC will utilize its engineering technology and experience cultivated through construction of these facilities and various plants, and continue to contribute to constructing a low carbon society.
